Ali Pasha began the construction of the castle in 1814 with the aim of besieging and conquering Parga. The architect of the castle was the Italian Don Santo di Monteleone.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n<p>In the same year, however, the English became masters of the Ionian Islands, which discouraged the Pasha from any aggressive initiative, who finally, in 1819, bought Parga from the British for 150,000 pounds. In 1816 the castle was in danger of collapsing, so it was reinforced.<\/p>\n\n<p>The core of the castle is a massive rectangular tower measuring 15 x 25m and 15m high. The rest of the fort is at most 10m high. The entrance is located on the west side and has a height of 5.4m. The thickness of the walls of the tower is 4 meters.
